 |
| Question: | Do you have a facility of the size and configuration that I need for a new location? |
| | Answer: | We maintain an inventory of available sites that are made known to us. We are on-line with the State of Connecticut’s inventory and we maintain an active relationship with commercial brokers in central Connecticut. We will search these sources in an effort to find a facility that meets your specific needs. If we are unable to find an existing site, we may be able to locate someone who will build for you. In any event, we can be very creative in helping to meet your needs. We have helped companies meet needs ranging from 1,000 square feet of storage to 350,000 square feet of manufacturing space. |

| Question: | I’m thinking about moving my business to Meriden. What benefits are available to me? |
| | Answer: | Most benefits available to businesses in Connecticut and Meriden are directed toward economic base businesses. These are businesses which tend to produce goods and services which are largely exported outside of the region. Benefits can range from property tax abatements to direct financing. Some benefits are available to commercial businesses; but these are restricted to our Enterprise Zone. Whatever the case, tell us your needs and we will tailor a package for you. |

| Question: | Meriden has an Enterprise Zone. How can that help my business? |
| | Answer: | Meriden does have one of the most successful Enterprise Zones in the northeast. A number of large and small businesses have grown or been established in our Zone. Give us a call, or email Trudy Magnolia at tmagnolia@ci.meriden.ct.us and we will mail you a brochure about the Zone. If it seems to fit, we can fill in the details. |

| Question: | I’m thinking about opening a restaurant/beauty shop. Are there any grants available? |
| | Answer: | In general, the City and the State avoid direct financial aid to retail, restaurant and other non-economic based businesses. This is because these businesses tend to be very location sensitive; they locate in a particular place or city because of that location, in spite of incentives which may be offered to the public. Economic based businesses, on the other hand, can often locate anywhere within a region and are sensitive to cost-saving incentives. Therefore, the City and State tend to use our scarce resources where they have the most impact. In certain cases, these businesses can possibly benefit from location in Meriden’s Enterprise Zone.
