11 Crown Street

11 Crown Street is a City-owned downtown property and building that was slated for redevelopment. The City was awarded $1.7 in CT DECD Cleanup funds for the redevelopment project, which included pre-development demolition and site cleanup.

In 2016, the City of Meriden selected Manafort Brothers, Inc. of New Britain CT to complete the demolition and remediation project. The total contract was $1.36 million. Licensed Environmental Professional Tighe & Bond oversaw this project.

Following demolition and site remediation, the City transferred the site to the Michaels Organization to develop a mixed use, mixed income transit oriented development including 81 housing units.

Now, the former Record Journal site located in downtown Meriden has been transformed by the Micheals Organization into an Affordable Housing Apartment complex comprised of one, two, and three bedroom mid-rise units and townhouses. Conveniently located near major highways, bus and train stations, as well as restaurants, shopping centers, and the Meriden Green, the 11 Crown Street apartments place residents in the heart of downtown Meriden.
